The elder's chief concern is to shepherd the flock of God according to his gifts, according to the needs of the flock, and in alignment with God's word.

Therefore, the elder must be present, engaged, aware, discerning, prayerful, and ready to defend the flock from attack.

The elder has spare capacity in his life to devote to the care of the flock.

Approximately 80% of the elder's work is to serve, support, and enable the flock to do the work of service.

Approximately 20% of the elder's work is to prayerfully make administrative, legal, financial, and strategic decisions on behalf of the flock.

The elder is expected to plan and lead Sunday services.

The elder is expected to teach the flock in some capacity.

The elder is expected to attend Wednesday services.

The elder is expected to participate in a huddle group with a clear pathway to leading a huddle group.

The elders are expected to gather in prayer before church gatherings.

The elders are the role models in the church and they must set the standards and expectations for the flock, through thought, word, and deed.
